Registration and Payment

  • Registration is $15, which includes a hot dog lunch and patch.
  • Once you submit the on-line registration form, you must then separately pay to complete registration. The web link to the payment site will be provided on the screen that confirms the submission of registration.(Information about alternate payment by check/money order also will be provided there as well.) Sorry, but no refunds are available.

Scholarships

In the event that the registration fee would disallow any Scout from participating, contact the MBU Coordinator, Dr. Dan McNeil, about a scholarship.

Prerequisites

Scouts should complete prerequisite requirements as described on the MBU web site list of prerequisites, and should bring proof of completion to MBU. Also, scouts should read the merit badge pamphlet prior to MBU. Merit badge pamphlets are available on-line (on paper or electronically) at www.scoutstuff.org or at the Mountaineer Area Council, BSA office in Fairmont.

What to Wear

All participants must wear a full “Class A uniform” or its equivalent for their group.
Scouts should dress to be prepared to walk across campus, even if cold or raining/snowing.  

What to Bring

  • Notebook and pen/pencil for taking notes and participating in the merit badge class.
  • Appropriate outerwear and shoes for walking across campus, even in inclement weather.
  • You may wish to bring money for a trading post with patches, other Scouting items, and snacks.

Directions

The day will begin and end at the WVU Student Recreation Center. Scouts will move to various WVU facilities for badges, and the day will end at the Rec Center. The street address is 2001 Rec Center Drive, Morgantown, WV 26506.

Boy Scout Unit Leader Approval

In completing this registration, it is assumed that Boy Scouts have approval from their unit leader to participate in Merit Badge University, and to enroll in the selected badge(s). A “blue sheet” (equivalent to a “blue card”) will be provided to each Scout at MBU, as has been done in past BSA National Jamborees. This year, Boy Scouts do NOT mail in blue cards prior to MBU, and do NOT need to bring a blue card with them.

Code of Conduct

While at MBU, scouts, leaders, parents, and any accompanying persons are expected to act in accordance with the Boy Scout Oath and Law or the Girl Scout Promise and Law, or the American Heritage Girls Oath and Creed. Participation is contingent upon agreement to the MBU Code of Conduct available on the MBU website.

Evening Use of the Rec Center

Information about use of the Rec Center at the end of the day after MBU, for a nominal fee, will be sent with registration confirmation.
